In November 2018 Cardiff North Conservative Association selected Joel as their Prospective Assembly Member for Cardiff North. Joel won over the support of members of the Association and will now turn to winning over the support of the electorate of Cardiff North, the Constituency he has lived all his life and currently represents as a County Councillor on Cardiff Council for the Pontprennau and Old St Mellons Ward.
With the 2021 Assembly Elections years away there is never a better time to start campaigning. Development concerns will be a key issue for Joel. With the city growing faster than ever before, Joel believes it is absolutely vital that more time is taken to plan ahead, especially when it comes to making sure adequate infrastructure is put in place.
Crucially, with the Welsh Labour Government able to vary the level of income tax from April next year, Joel says he will be ready to hold ministers to account should taxes rise and take money out of the pockets of ordinary people.
Following the announcement of his selection, Cllr Joel Williams said:
“Setting up a business at the age of 16 has given me the opportunity to work with a number of individuals and local businesses throughout Cardiff North - my home - including young businessmen and women. I am ready to act on the concerns of businesses and residents in Cardiff North.
It may seem like the election is a long way off, but as far as I am concerned, my campaign starts now. I can promise the people of Cardiff North that I won’t waste time before hitting the streets. I want to make sure they know there is a credible alternative to lazy Welsh Labour – that there is a way to change things for the better and that there is a strong voice who will stand up for them in the Assembly.
I look forward to meeting as many people as possible, hearing about their concerns and ultimately, representing them in the Welsh Assembly”
