In May 2016 Joel was selected to stand in 2017 Council Elections for Pontprennau and Old St Mellons. Both Joel and Councillor Rees (first elected in 2004, 2008 and 2012) were elected in 2017.  It is a huge privilege for Joel to represent the area in which he has lived all his life. Working alongside Councillor Dianne Rees, Joel and Dianne make a strong team, fighting for their Community.

Please find below a list of their priorities for Pontprennau and Old St Mellons:

Our Pontprennau Priorities

1) Be a strong voice with the Council and Police to tackle parking and congestion in our area

2) Proactively work with businesses throughout Pontprennau to tackle litter and hold regular litter picks

3) Tackle speeding through Pontprennau by campaigning for greater awareness of the risks of speeding through our Community

4) Fight for our voice to be heard in reducing the Volume of traffic through our Community

Our Old St Mellons Priorities

1) Be a strong voice with the Council and Police to tackle Parking in our area

2) Proactively report pot hole and pavement conditions to the Council and campaign for better highway conditions

3) Proactively work with businesses throughout Old St Mellons to tackle litter and hold regular litter picks

4) Tackle speeding through Old St Mellons by campaigning for greater awareness of the risks of speeding through our Village

Dianne and Joel are actively campaigning all year round in their community.

For the last few years they have been actively fighting against Cardiff Labour's development plans for Cardiff. They both support the need for homes in our city, Cardiff has to grow and there must support sustainable development. However they opposed the large development between Pontprennau and Old St Mellons as the area does not have the infrastructure in place to support such a large development. In their view the roads and community facilities should be in place before large developments take place.

It is encouraging to receive positive feedback from residents. If you have an issue or concern you'd like to raise with Dianne or Joel please don't hesitate to get in touch.
